CS 396: Meeting 2 – Networking

September 19, 2017 by . Filed under cs396, fall 2017, lectures.

Dear students,

Today Alyssa from Career Services will help us prepare for the upcoming career fair. I’d like to take a moment to say that you’ve got an awesome opportunity here. I had nothing like this when I was an undergraduate, and I spent many hours sending emails to potential employers and never hearing back. It was very frustrating. On September 28, however, you get to be locked in a room with a whole bunch of people that want to hire you. This is a sweet deal.

The readings for next time focus on a skill that can take immense pressure off of you during conversations: ask questions.

Here’s your TODO list for next time:

See you next class!

Sincerely,

P.S. It’s time for a haiku!

0.1 is bad
But just spell it G-A-P
Then it’s 3.9

P.P.S. Here’s another:

Talking is awkward
But you’ll do much less of it
With a weird handshake
