CS 347: Lecture 11 – Forms

Dear students:

Earlier in the semester we looked at some of the form elements that are available to us in HTML. At the time we had no facility for assembling these elements into a cohesive whole or doing anything with the information the user entered. In this lecture, we hit upon a grab bag of topics related to forms, including molding them into a responsive layout, reading an uploaded file in JavaScript, and making them more user-friendly.

Here’s your TODO list:

• Watch Gridded Forms, in which we use the Grid layout to produce a tabular arrangement of elements and labels.
• Watch Suggested Picking, in which we provide a list of automatic suggestions for text inputs.
• Watch Reading Local Files, in which we allow the user to upload a file that we parse in JavaScript.
• Watch Infield Labels, in which we employ illusory styling to complete alter the appearance of inputs.
• Watch Haiku, in which we take a poetic aside.
• Read chapter 2 of Eloquent JavaScript.
• Be prepared for a peer review on Thursday. Your page should be taking shape with real client. Keep up a regular flow of committing and pushing.
• Post any questions and comments you have regarding the videos and readings on the course Slack.
