Lets Talk Money – (Postmortem)
Our app allows the user to select a language (English, French, Japanese) on the home screen. The user can follow the instructions on the next page to see currency exchange information on whichever currency and amount they selected.
Pros:
– Language localization was easy to work with after it was all set up and we found some good examples.
– We felt like it is handy to know about language localization in apps for future use. It is also good to know for web stuff because it seemed similar i18n stuff. :)
– It was fun working with JSON once we found a good public feed… there were a lot of useless ones…
Cons:
– It was hard to find useful public JSON feeds. So this currency one was awesome when we found it!
– Getting the language localization was a little tricky to set up.
Blugolds:
– Localize an app into at least three languages.
– Employ a web service in an app. The exchange format must be grammatically-defined: XML,
JSON, or similar. HTML scraping doesn’t count. -> we did JSON
— Notice our lovely launcher icon… we are very proud! :)
