Stock Mail App (for Android 2.3)

Developed by Google

Free with Android

(Yep, I rarely use this gmail account and that is the most recent message in it)

Google’s stock mail application provides users with a competent mail management experience.  New users to Android may take a minute or two to figure things out due to Android hiding menu options under the dedicated menu button on the phone.  This causes some confusion initially with the mail app as the compose new message option is under the menu options and not readily available.  After acclimating to the menu however, the app works well.

It integrates very well with Google’s Gmail service, bringing over quite a number of the features found in that service including the ability to manage multiple inboxes, mark messages read/unread, star messages, delete, reply, compose new, attach items, etc…  It integrates well with the rest of the phone system as well, allowing you to touch the name of the sender to save them as a contact in the phone and it supports system notifications to alert you when you have a new email.

Overall it is a very solid email application, especially for one that is built into the phone ecosystem.  It does everything you would expect it to and integrates well with the phone itself leveraging notifications and other built in apps such as contacts.
