CS491 – Homework 0 – Android Task/Todo List

September 16, 2011 by . Filed under cs491 mobile, fall 2011, postmortems.

Name: Android Task/Todo List

The purpost of this app is to keep track of items that are “todo”. Adding items to your list is fairly simple – at the bottom of every screen is a text field where you can enter a new item. Next to the field is a ‘+’ button that actually adds the item. The app comes preloaded with two items. 1) Add the todo list to your homescreen as a widget. 2) Sync with your online account. These items aren’t that annoying, I guess. And more than anything it’s probably just to let you know that you can do those things. Thay being said, I still don’t like that the list is prepopulated with stuff that I don’t really want “todo”. I think those features would be better shown in a tutorial.

Feature-wise, this app is packed. Todo items can be given an importance, deadline, it  can be repeated on different dates, notes can be added, and alarms can be set. Todo items can also be grouped into Lists. The app has additional settings that can be changed through the Android Settings app.  There are also a number of great sharing, collaboration, and syncing options.

The UI is great compared to other Android apps I’ve used. The views transition smoothly, there’s no jagged-ness when scrolling, and the controls are very intuitive.

Despite my best efforts I wasn’t able to break the app. So props to them.

The developer is Astrid.

It seems like the only other items they have are add ons and enhancements for this free app. Both of the optional addons can be purchased within the app.

The reviews have been generally good (4.4  overall) There have been over 40000 downloads, which is pretty impressive.
